Arclinea San Diego Wins Two National Design Awards

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

San Diego kitchen design firm accepts awards for design and remodeling excellence from two top remodeling publications.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Two residential kitchen remodels designed by Arclinea San Diego have won prestigious national design awards. The kitchen design firm has won a “Grand Award” in Remodeling magazine’s “2008 Remodeling Design Awards,” for their bold, contemporary design for an 1898 historic Victorian- and a “Gold Award” in the “2008 Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards” sponsored by Qualified Remodeler magazine, for their sleek, all-stainless steel design for a 1950s California ranch.

Both awards will be announced at the 2008 Remodeling Show, which begins September 9th in Baltimore, MD.

“We are incredibly excited to win top awards in two of the remodeling industry’s most influential national contests,” says Lisa Wilson-Wirth, president and owner, Arclinea San Diego. “Each of our winning projects addresses a design challenge common to many remodeling scenarios-how to successfully integrate contemporary design solutions, and modern technologies, into older or historic homes. For Remodeling and Qualified Remodeler magazines to recognize two of our San Diego kitchen remodels as some of the nation’s best is a tremendous honor.”

Details on each award-winning project:

WINNER: “GRAND AWARD: OLD-HOUSE RENOVATION”

Arclinea San Diego’s contemporary kitchen design for an 1898 Historic Victorian, located in the downtown San Diego neighborhood of Sherman Heights, has won the “Grand Award” in the category “Old House Renovation,” in the “2008 Remodeling Design Awards” sponsored by Remodeling magazine.

The publication received 340 entries in this year’s program. A six-member jury-composed of architects and architectural designers-selected 21 entries for recognition, including eight Grand Awards. Arclinea San Diego’s winning project will be featured in the October 2008 issue of Remodeling magazine and on Remodeling Online (www.remodelingmag.com).

Juror Comments:

Arclinea San Diego’s kitchen remodel for this Historic home features creative culinary solutions and custom Italian cabinetry in bold papaya yellow. Jurors called the kitchen remodel “gutsy,” recognizing it for a “sophisticated mix of materials” and “skillful insertion of something unexpected.” They added: “There’s a real delight to the kitchen,” praising it for “addressing a larger issue of history,” in which the resulting design “makes the kitchen look like its aged in place.”

WINNER: “GOLD AWARD: KITCHENS $50K – $100K”

Arclinea San Diego’s all-stainless steel kitchen design for a 1950s California ranch, located in the San Diego neighborhood of Mission Hills, has won the “Gold Award” in the category “Kitchens $50k – $100k” in the “29th Annual Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards” presented by Qualified Remodeler magazine.

The publication received 435 entries in its 2008 program. A panel of five experts selected 23 projects for Gold awards, across 22 categories. Arclinea San Diego’s winning project will be featured in the September 2008 issue of Qualified Remodeler and on the publication’s website (www.qualifiedremodeler.com).

Juror Comments:

Arclinea San Diego’s design connected the kitchen with the living and dining areas, taking advantage of the home’s unobstructed views of San Diego Bay. With only 140 total square feet, careful attention was paid to every design and functional detail to make the galley kitchen feel and perform as a much larger space. Jurors called the modern design, with its all stainless steel cabinetry and single-piece stainless steel countertops, an “exciting transformation” and praised it for being “well thought-out and well executed.”

What’s the ‘Greenest’ Outdoor Furniture? Adams Mfg. Finds Environment Advantages in Resin

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

PORTERSVILLE, Pa., Jan. 29 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Concerned Americans want to be sure they’re buying casual furniture that won’t harm the environment, say the folks at Adams Mfg. Corp. There are a lot of choices. Casual furniture is made out of steel, wrought iron, wood, and resin.

Metal furniture is very hard on the environment. Ore has to be mined, refined, and smelted. Then, it has to be formed, polished, and usually painted. Each step in the process requires energy in transportation and processing. Additionally, airborne pollutants are produced every step of the way. Even more pollutants are produced when it has to be sanded, primed, and re-painted every couple of years.

Those who like wooden furniture, like the classic Adirondack Chair, encourage the use of wood because it’s a renewable material, preferably from well-managed plantations. But, wooden furniture is rarely “stackable,” so shipping it generates a lot of energy use and wastage. And, like metal furniture, wood furniture also puts pollutants into the air because it has to be sanded, primed, and painted frequently.

Resin furniture is made out of petroleum products. But, unlike the other kinds of furniture, it’s easiest to recycle. Recyclers just run old resin furniture through a shredder, and the resin is ready to be used, over and over again. Since the color goes clear through resin furniture, it doesn’t have to be re-painted, which makes it much easier to recycle.

So, when thinking about outdoor furniture, stacking resin furniture has more advantages than its lower costs. It is 100-percent recyclable.

Established in 1981, Adams Mfg. takes pride in providing high-quality, safe consumer products Made in the USA. In addition to casual furniture, Adams also manufactures Christmas decorating accessories, suction cups, and magnets. The company holds exclusive patents on many of its items.
